How I felt at the end of the "Maus" Discussion
I felt that the discussion over all was pretty well done. Certain questions could have been stated differently, but beside from that all other questions were answered very throughly and were covered by everyone in the class.

The Congo. What's going on now?
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/10/05/congo.rapes.arrest/index.html?iref=allsearch CNN
This article talks about how one of the authority figures in the Congo arrested for charges of rape. Many Congolese citizens were also abducted for forced labor. Remind you of anyone? It make me wonder, why don't other countries try to help or get involved in bringing a sense of peace in the Congo?
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/10/01/congo.atrocities.un.report/index.html?iref=allsearch CNN This article talks about the some of the genocide that is going on in the Congo. The article specifically mentions how, "Tens of thousands of people were killed, and numerous others were raped, mutilated or otherwise victimized during the decade". How do other counties know about this and still do nothing?

Post Discussion Thoughts
Overall, I thought the group I participated with today had some very interesting answer to the question that were thought up before class. Everyone had some very interesting ideas, and everyone got a chance to talk. Concerning questions I have after the discussion, one question I have is, "How would Leopold's presence in the Congo effected the uprising of the Africans?".

Response and Questions
Response: Concerning pages 1-32 of Adam Hochshild's King Leopold's Ghost, I think it sheds some great light on a very rarely heard of topic of Imperialism in Europe and the world wide movement against slave labor in the Congo. I myself became very interested, as I read, in learning about this event in history that I had never heard of before.
Questions:
1. How did the notion of Imperialism in Europe first come about?
2. Why was it important to have slave labor in the Congo?

End of Class Thoughts
I learned the difference between Old and New Imperialism, and I learned about the invention of the World Government and the White Mans Burden. I'd like to learn more about how people go about trying to live in an Imperialistic society.

Current Events Practice
Class Activity: Current Events Reporting
What's being discussed in this article?
The Ground Zero Mosque
When did the event happen? (Is this breaking news or something that's been analyzed and discussed for a while?) August 25, 2010. This story has been analyzed for quite a while now.
What questions do you have that would help make this article make more sense to you? What more do you need to learn about to be able to report on this event?
No questions. It was a pretty well written article.

Which News Worthy Events do you Remember from your Life time?
Historical Events that I Remember
9/11 (2001): On September 11th 2001, I was completely unaware of what was happening that day, until one of my mom's friends told her to turn the TV on ASAP. We turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane come crashing into the standing Twin Tower. I had now idea what was going on as the Twin Towers came crashing down. Later I found out the whole story. I was only 9 when 9/11 happened so I even when I learned what actually happened I still didn't fully understand.
Cardinals Winning the World Series (2006): During the year that the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series, I remember following the team the all the way there. From the time they won their devision, until the final pitch of the World Series. It seemed every game I was on edge of my seat living and dying between each at-bat. And with an epic ending to the NL Pennant, I remember going crazy after Adam Wainwright struck out Carlos Beltran with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. It was a roller coaster ride throughout the entire World Series, but it all came to a satisfying ending as Adam Wainwright once again struck out the final batter to win the World Series.
Micheal Jackson's Death (2009): When I learned about Micheal Jackson's death it really confused me. I knew that Micheal Jackson wasn't that old, but he was dead. I cant remember exactly where or when I first learned about it, but what I do remember is that for the next month, the investigation and coverage of his death was all over the news. I never really listened to his music all that much, but I knew a few of his really popular songs. So his death really didn't hit as hard with me then it did with other people.
